JLE ACADEMY

JusListen Entertainment, LLC is a multimedia arts and education company founded by Dr. Tyson.

JLE Academy hosts discussion-based workshops created by Dr. Tyson that examine the history, evolution, and complexity of Hip Hop culture.

We explore the artistry and global diversity of Hip Hop, and its role as a tool for social justice.

HIP HOP: A CULTURE OF PEACE

"Hip Hop: A Culture of Peace" the primary course and e-book from JLE Academy, written and taught by Dr. Tyson.

Participants will have an opportunity to engage in lectures and workshops on the origin of Hip Hop culture, learn about its growth into a global phenomenon, and understand the impact Hip Hop has on politics and social justice.

The workshops include a copy of “Hip Hop: A Culture of Peace” written by Dr. Stephen Tyson Jr., as well as access to a digital library of relevant multimedia on the history and social impact of Hip Hop culture.

PRESERVING LEGACY

JLE Academy workshops continue the long-standing connection between Hip Hop culture and education.

DJ Kool Herc and Cindy Campbell hosted the first documented Hip Hop party at 1520 Sedgwick Ave. in the Bronx, NY on August 11, 1973 as a “Back to School Jam.”

We are keeping this legacy alive by teaching the origin and history of our culture, since we live it every day!
